Happy First Day of Summer!

To celebrate the first official day of summer, I have chosen a beachy card to show. This is using some great stamps by Stampendous! To make this card, I used Ranger's alcohol inks in red, orange and yellow. This is what I call the alcohol smash and twist - you put drops of ink on a craft sheet, add a little blending solution and then take a piece of glossy cardstock and smash it into the ink and twist off. Allow it to dry, pick the spot you like best and stamp the image over the spot with Ranger Archival ink. I trimmed the image out and layered it to make a fun card - full of sunshine.

Sorry for the delay in posts - the last week and a half just got right away from me!

By the Sea...

I've had a great time playing with some of the new seaside images from Stampendous. This is another one that I colored with watercolor pencils and a wet paint brush on watercolor paper. the background is created with a piece of blue cardstock, stamped with 2 different background stamps from Impression Obsession and 3 colors of Ranger Distress ink.

Just a fun little card - starts making me think about summer!

Have a great day!

Watercolor Pencils with a Paintbrush...

I generally use watercolor pencils with a Dove Blender, but I decided that I wanted a more washy look for some beach cards and decided to use a paintbrush with water instead of the blender pen. The stamps used in this sample are both by Stampendous. A few tips - first, use watercolor paper, as it is designed to get a lot of water on it. I used a smooth 88-pound white watercolor paper. Second, stamp the image with an ink that will not bleed with a lot of water. I used Ranger's Archival ink in black and dried it with a heat gun. Third, apply the pencil colors all at once, before you start adding water - you can add additional color from the brush later, but it is difficult to apply color from a pencil once you have introduced a lot of water to the paper. It spreads! See first picture:

Now get a cup of water and a nice soft brush and start blending. The colors will blend very quickly, as you have a lot more water at once than you do with a blender pen. I really liked the effect you can get for the sky - without nearly as much work!

After blending out the color, I cut the cardstock and stamped the wording. I then took the blue pencil and put lines around one side of the words. I blended it out with a paintbrush, then took a white Twinkling H20s paint and added a little pearl effect to the words and the beach surf.

This adds a slightly different look to your watercolor pencils!

Last Minute Easter Card....

I am sure I am not the only one out there working on last-minute Easter cards! This is one that I can give personally tomorrow, so I am all set! I used a clear set from Stampendous with a couple elegant eggs (it also has a gorgeous butterfly). I stamped the eggs with Onyx Black Versafine ink, then embossed with clear embossing powder. You have to be quick with VersaFine when embossing, as the ink is designed to dry quickly. Then I colored the eggs with Copic markers - colors are shown below. The words are by Penny Black and I added a white satin ribbon down the side. This is an A-6 card (folded card measures 4-1/2 x 6-1/4"). A-6 cards are a great size - sometimes the standard A-2 cards are just a little too small and the A-6 is perfect. The pink dotted cardstock is BoBunny Double Dot (of course!). The rest of the layers are classic Bazzill cardstock.

These are the colors I used for coloring the eggs on the card. I chose to leave the main part of the egg white, as I thought it gave a little more contrast.

Thanks for stopping by today. I should have another post later today if I get all my Easter prep stuff done to show you!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I hope everyone is enjoying the day! This is a fun little image from Stampendous. Nothing like a cheery leprechaun enjoying the holiday! I stamped the leprechaun in VersaFine ink - colored with watercolor pencils and a blender pen. I punched several size circles out of Bazzill Ivy cardstock and attached them in a line formation along the front of the card (I used Ranger Glossy Accents as an adhesive). Then I layered the leprechaun piece to a piece of black cardstock and aligned it to the left edge of the card. There's a little green rhinestone in his hand - for luck!

Have a great St. Patrick's Day!

Riley Celebrates St. Patrick's Day!

In honor of St. Patty's Day, Riley is toasting with a glass of Guinness! Or at least I think that is what he has! Who knows, maybe it is a Black and Tan. Remember, this is coming from a non-beer drinker!

I started with a green Bazzill base card and scatter stamped some shamrocks in Tsukineko Green Tea pigment ink. Then I stamped and colored Riley. I tried stamping in brown ink, but that did not work out at all! Went black to my favorite ink - Onyx Black Versafine. Colored him with watercolor pencils and a Dove blender pen. Next I stamped the wording from Stampendous in Green Tea ink on a piece of lighter green and added the ribbon (one of my favorite patterns from May Arts!). Layered the who thing and up and, voila! A pretty quick card!

Hopefully you're seeing more green in your life. The snow here is slowly melting. I am probably down to a foot on my lawn! Come on Spring!

A Heart-Shaped Valentine...

I used the Spellbinders heart dies to make this heart-shaped valentine card. The actual card is made with the largest straight heart die. Fold a piece of cardstock and secure the die to the card so the the tops of heart die are slightly above the fold. Now, this gives you a heart with flat tops. I then took a large scalloped heart die and cut that out and attached it over the top of the card front - so that it is a complete heart and the card opens underneath it. The little girl image is from Stampendous and she is a real cutie! After that it is just simple layering and coloring. An easy way to make a heart-shaped valentine!

Have a great stamping day!

Stamping Baby Gifts...

I was invited to a baby shower where you are supposed to bring a decorated onesie to the shower for the mother-to-be to try to guess who made each onesie. Well, of course I was going to stamp something! I used some animal images from a Stampendous clear baby set. I used VersaCraft ink from Tsukineko and heat set the ink with an iron. I placed a Cuttlebug B plate with a piece of white cardstock on top in the middle of the onesie to create a good stamping surface and catch the marker ink after it soaked through the fabric. Then I colored the design with Copic markers. It is a little tricky, as the markers like to move quickly in the fabric. What I discovered worked best was to color a small area, then quickly iron over it (I placed a clean sheet of paper between the iron and the onesie) to dry the ink quickly and keep it from running.

I also made a quick card using a fun Noah's Ark image, colored with watercolor pencils and cut out and layered with a couple Spellbinders dies. Lacey Circles is one of my favorites! The border punch is an EK Success punch and I added a white satin bow wrapped around the layer.

Thanks for checking out the blog today!

Happy Birthday Ideas!

I used this cute monkey from Stampendous to make a simple and fun birthday card. Stamped and colored with Staedtler watercolor pencils and a Dove blender pen. I scatter stamped a random dot image from Printworks on front of the card and added a couple strips of a lined DP. I layered the colored image over the top and added some words to the bottom of the card. This card was done in blues and greens but I have also done it in pinks and greens in a more girly style.
Enjoy your day!

Guana Give Me A Kiss?

This card is made from a very fun stamp set from Stampendous! The little iguanas are fun and make some humorous Valentine cards! The iguanas are colored with Copic markers and then cut out. The heart and words are stamped on a red felt cardstock, then cut out. The heart is layered to a piece of white cardstock, then a Spellbinders scalloped rectangle. The base card is scatter stamped with a heart image and VersaMark ink. The iguana images are attached with foam tape for a little pop.

Thanks for stopping by!
